My Computer is too slow

- suji 2006-07-13
Hello,

I use a Pentium 4 pc with 256 mb RAM and windows xp. My problem is, nowadays, my pc has become too slow. Earlier it was not like that.

One more thing is the red colored led on cpu just keeps on glowing. Is there any danger for CPU box?

Help is apreciated.

i think your cpu may explode due to the red light!(just kidding).

i think it is problem with some lose connections. just open the cabinet and press your graphic card, databus connection etc.

as you mentioned, if your cpu red colored led is always glowing, there may be a fault with your hard disk drive.

Especially, when hard drives develop bad sectors, you can see that glowing led.

Alternatively, there may be virus problem too. Check with a good antivirus. AVG, Mcafee or Nortons are all good options for virus scanning.

hope it helps.

here are the solutions to look for for a slow pc speed improvement..

+ There may be a loose connection(may in your graphics card, IDE/SATA cables, FDD cables, modem etc.. check them.
+ Your CPU may be over heating.(check the cpu fan, cabinet fan, power supply unit capacity etc.)
+ There may be Virus in your PC. Try scanning with a good antivirus.
+ Check for Spywares/Adwares/Back doors too.
+ Un install all unwanted programs.( Use windows uninstallation facility or use a good uninstaller ).
+ Check your disk surface with diagnostic programs. Bad sectors may be the reason. ( Use scandisk, nortons disk doctor etc. )
+ Use a good UPS to protect your PC against power failures.

good luck.

guys, he mentioned that his hdd is glowing red always! i.e. I suspect that is really a problem with his hard disk drive.

Use a hard disk diagnostic program such as norton disk doctor and find out what exactly it is.

If it is really due to bad sectors on your hard disk drive, try a bad sector recovery program such as Hard disk Regenerator.

Everything is already suggested. Try using Nortons Disk Doctor too once and see if it helps you.
