Changing default logon user in Windows Xp

- romero 2008-05-06
This guide helps a user to change the default logon user in Windows Xp operating system.

Procedure :

Some time back, I have installed a Windows Xp system for one of my client.

The client was happy for a few days and had absolutely no problems at all. Because the client was the only person to use that pc, I made him the default automatic logon user and hence he needed no passwords to enter.

The pc booted directly to Windows Xp and never asked a password.

But, after a few days, his brother too arrived at his house and now, he wanted to share his computer with his brother. But he dont wanted to share his information.

The customer called me and wanted to use another user as a default user instead of his own user id.

here are the steps i followed to solve this problem.

1. Click "Start" Button on task bar.
2. Select "Run" item there.
3. In the Run dialog box, type "control userpasswords2" (without quotes).
4. Now windows Xp displays the "User Accounts" Window.
5. Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box and Press Apply.
6. In the Automatically Log On window, type the password in the Password box, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password box.
7. Click OK to close the Automatically Log On window, and then click OK to close the User Accounts window.

Now, the computer automatically logs on to your specified user account.

good luck.
