Turning off Windows Automatic Updates

This tip proves very useful for people without broadband.

Generally, When Windows xp is intalled it is set to download and install updates automatically. If you are on dialup on slow internet connection, this background downloading of Windows updates from microsoft site, will slowdown your net surfing experience considerably.

It is very easy to turn off Windows automatic updates. Just follow the steps given here..

1. Press Right mouse button on My Computer on your desktop. It displays a Menu as shown in the below picture.

2. Click the "Properties" Menu item(last item in the menu). This displays the System Properties Window. Click "Automatic Updates" tab there(As shown in picture bellow).

3. By default Windows will have automatic updates turned on. Now, Click "Turn off Automatic Updates." option to turn off automatic background updates.

4. Click "OK" button to finish the job.

This will considerably improve your slow internet surfing problems when you use a slow internet connection.
