thumbs.db files in windows xp folders

- xin 2006-09-08
I use windows xp on a pentium 4 with 256MB memory.

Recently I noticed that, some of my folders are having an additional file called thumbs.db. I am sure that i have not created that file. And i tried to delete it, but windows xp say i can not delete it, because it is being used.

I suspect that it may be due to some virus problem, but my friend says it is not.

What is this thumbs.db file? why i should use it? Is it possible to delete it?

Pl. reply.

xin

thumbs.db is a system file automatically generated by windows to keep a cache of all images and video previews for the user.

you can see a reference picture bellow for thumbs.db..

Deleting thumbs.db file should be harmless, but it will be automatically created by windows if you dont disable it.
