CMOS Checksum Error Message

- sean 2006-08-25
I have a new Pentium 4 computer which is assembled by my friend for me. After around 3 months of use, every time when i start it, it says "CMOS Checksum Error" and stops there until I press F1.

Even though I did not notice any difference in my computers performance, I am just worried about it affecting me in long term.

Is there any easy way to solve this problem? anybody help me.

sean.

Usually Cmos checksum errors indicate a dead battery in your computer.

The battery which comes with a new computer will have around 2 to 3 years life. Just replace it, set the bios defaults and you will have no cmos errors.

I agree with cpumaster. Just replace your cmos battery which powers the computers real time clock and bios to hold the specified values.

Usually computers use CR2032 lithium batteris. Check any of your nearest computer store and you will get them.

You can see how a typical CR2032 battery looks like..

What do I do next if I replace the battery and the computer does not turn on?
