PC automatically turns off at start up

- Mohammad 2006-07-31
I bought a Intel P4 system and installed winXP pro. It was working but often kept resetting itself. I have installed a Graphics card but it did not solve the problem. I have replaced the motherboard. Now it turns off at start up when windows logo loads. I would be much obliged if someone can help. Thanks

have you checked the cpu temperature? what is the temperature you have recorded thru bios. if it is abnormally high, you know you need to change the cpu heat sink fan.

just one possiblity only.

There may be a device loose connection. Try fixing them all correct (like your graphics card, modem, network interface card etc.).

Also check you Power supply unit capacity. if it is not adequate, you may face this type of restarts occasionally.

try them.

Because you are saying that the pc will be shutdown only when the logo screen starts, there may be a possiblity of having viruses too. Try using a good antivirus by booting your PC in safe mode.

If safe mode too fails, try scanning booting thru a MS Dos disk.

good luck.
